Hoyo De Monterrey Cigars

In 1845 a thirteen year Spaniard, Don Jose Gener, emigrated to Cuba to work on his Uncle’s plantation in the legendary Vuelta Abajo tobacco growing region. In his early thirties, he was both a factory owner and a plantation owner. He then registered his new cigar brand ‘Hoyo de Monterrey’. To this day, a leisurely drive along the fertile banks of the San Juan Martinez river will lead you to the town of Juan Y Martinez. There on the town gates will be found the inscription-Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener.1860

The business stayed within the family until 1931. The business was then sold to Fernandez Palicio Y Cia a company who grew the brand significantly until it was responsible for approximately 13% of all Cuban cigars.

For those seeking a delicately aromatic yet flavourful cigar. Hoyos are light of taste yet elegantly complex. The legendary double corona has long been perceived as one of the great cigars, however in the 21 century it is the Epicure range that has leapt to the forefront. The Epicure Especiales is a near perfect example of the cigar rollers art.
