Partagas Cigars

Established in 1845, Partagas is one of Cuba’s oldest and prestigious of brands. After many years in the Cuban cigar trade, Don Jaime Partagas Y Ravelo set up the Real Fabricas de Tobaco Partagas (Partagas Royal Tobacco Factory) – a name chosen because the company supplied the great houses of both Asia and Europe. At this time, some of the best cigar plantations in the world were owned by Don Jaime. His innovative techniques led to fermenting and aging processes that are still in use today. Indeed the Partagas factory was the first to introduce the unique Cuban practice of reading to the Cigar workers.

The story of Partagas reads like a film script! In the 1860s Don Jaime was murdered by a jealous rival concerning a passionate love affair. From 1900 the legendary Cifuentes took control of the brand. Over the next half a century the company grew into one of the largest exporters of Havana Cigars. Indeed by 1958, Cifuentes Y Cia as the Partagas company was now known was responsible for over 25% of total Cuban tobacco exports. Revolution and regime change did little to dampen the world’s passion for Partagas Cigars. Indeed by 1990, in excess of 10 Million cigars were hand-rolled and exported.

To visit Havana and not visit the legendary Partagas factory (also known as the Francisco Perez German) on 520 Industrial Street is nothing short of sacrilege! A Partagas is immediately recognisable for its rich, mellow, earthy flavours. All tobaccos used in their creation are specifically chosen for their full flavour and aroma. The most renowned of all Partagas cigars is the Serie D No 4 – a Robusto steeped in tradition and oozing flavour.
